Jill Ellsworth embarked on her entrepreneurial journey in the health and consumer safety sector, initially founding Vibrant Earth Juices (VEJ), an organic, cold-pressed juice company based in Santa Barbara, CA and Denver, CO. Her interest in pasteurization techniques, particularly High Pressure Processing (HPP), grew during this time, as she sought to enhance microbial safety and prolong freshness for her juice products.

Noticing a lack of health and safety standards in the cannabis industry, Jill recognized an opportunity to apply her food safety expertise. In 2015, she founded Willow Industries in Denver, CO, the first US company dedicated to cannabis microbial decontamination. Willow Industries aimed to ensure product safety while preserving the plant’s medicinal qualities. Extensive research and development led to the use of Ozone to eliminate harmful microbes, resulting in the creation of the WillowPure machine tailored to cultivators’ needs.

The introduction of WillowPure effectively prevented microbial test failures, recalls, and common cannabis surface contaminants. The company continued to enhance its systems, culminating in the 2020 launch of the WillowPure 360 model. Recognizing a need for education on microbial management in cannabis cultivation, Willow Industries expanded its services to include microbial consulting. This initiative, supported by a team of Microbiologists, empowered cultivators with best practices and knowledge for quality assurance, leading to healthier plants and reduced bioburden in the final product.

By 2024, WillowPure systems are utilized by cannabis producers and brands across 38 states, Canada, and Australia, highlighting Willow Industries’ global impact on cannabis safety and quality.
