The Beckley Foundation

Founded by Amanda Feilding in 1998, the Beckley Foundation has been a pioneer in global drug policy reform and scientific research on psychoactive substances. We partner with leading scientific and political institutions worldwide to create innovative research and global policy initiatives.

The foundation has a dual purpose:

Scientific Investigation: To study the effects of psychoactive substances on the brain and consciousness, aiming to maximize benefits and minimize harms. This includes advancing understanding of consciousness and brain function, as well as exploring new treatment avenues for illnesses.

Policy Reform: To advocate for evidence-based changes in global drug policies. This involves reducing harms caused by current policies and developing improved approaches based on health, harm reduction, cost-effectiveness, and human rights.

Scientific Programme: Under Amanda’s leadership, the Scientific Programme collaborates with experts and institutions to conduct research projects and clinical trials. The focus is on cannabis, MDMA, and psychedelics (LSD, psilocybin, DMT, 5-MeO-DMT), using neuroscience and brain imaging technology to understand their effects on the human brain. The goal is to enhance scientific knowledge of consciousness and explore new treatment possibilities.

Policy Programme: Through the Policy Programme, the foundation works with political leaders and drug policy analysts to create evidence-based global drug policies. These initiatives encourage dialogue on sensitive drug policy issues and explore alternative regulatory models to reduce harmful impacts of prohibition policies.
