Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP)

In 1998, a small group of students who had connected online formed the first cohort of Students for Sensible Drug Policy. As members of the DARE generation, they recognized the widespread failures of the drug war and united to raise their voices against a flawed system, striving to bring about meaningful change.

Since then, we’ve grown to more than 300 campuses across 32 countries, mobilizing tens of thousands of young people to advocate for a more sensible approach to drug laws. Numerous policy reforms, led or supported by SSDPers, now protect individuals from punishment if they seek help during an overdose, ensure access to education regardless of drug citations, and provide safe access to cannabis for both adult and medical use.

We invite you to explore our history and significant milestones since our inception.
