Project CBD

In 1996, when California legalized medical cannabis, THC-dominant strains were the norm, and CBD was relatively unknown. However, by 2010, this trend began to shift as laboratories in Northern California identified CBD-rich cultivars such as “Harlequin,” “Jamaican Lion,” “Sour Tsunami,” and “Blue Jay Way.” These were not hemp plants but rather high-resin marijuana varieties with significant levels of both CBD and THC.

To address the lack of awareness about CBD’s therapeutic benefits, Project CBD was established in 2010. This initiative aimed to educate the medical cannabis community and provide access to CBD-rich genetics. Project CBD distributed CBD-rich clones at no cost to growers and patients, encouraging dispensaries to offer CBD-rich flower alongside THC-rich options. This effort was supported by the creation of the first and longest-running website dedicated to CBD information dissemination.
