The Drug Policy Alliance is at the forefront of efforts in the U.S. to end the war on drugs, address its consequences, and establish a fair, regulated drug market. Keep reading to discover our approach. We advocate for a new direction in drug policy, focusing on ending the criminalization of drug users and sellers, expanding addiction treatment and support services, and promoting innovative drug regulation methods. Voter participation is crucial for change. The DPA informs voters about drug policy issues to enable them to make informed choices. Through our 501c4 Drug Policy Action arm, we drive ballot initiatives at the state and local levels. Communities require support to drive change. The DPA backs organizations dedicated to drug policy reform, with a focus on empowering drug users and those most affected by the war on drugs. Drug policy touches every aspect of society. The DPA collaborates with activists, affected individuals, policymakers, researchers, and various organizations across different movements, including through our International Drug Policy Reform Conference. Much of the information on drugs and drug policy is misleading, driven by fear, and reinforces stigma. The DPA promotes facts, evidence, and personal stories to educate the public and policymakers about the need for drug law reform. Drug policy reform should be based on evidence, not preconceptions or stigma. The DPA collaborates with academics, researchers, experts, and individuals with lived experiences to develop and advocate for evidence-based drug policies.
