Reason Foundation

The Reason Foundation promotes a free society through the development, application, and promotion of libertarian principles such as individual liberty, free markets, and the rule of law. Using journalism and public policy research, we aim to influence policymakers, journalists, and opinion leaders. Our work emphasizes voluntarism and individual responsibility, the importance of the rule of law, private property, and limited government, and the pursuit of truth through rational discourse and the scientific method.

Reason Foundation produces respected public policy research and publishes the critically acclaimed Reason magazine. Together, our top-tier think tank and political and cultural magazine reach a diverse, influential audience, advocating for choice, individual freedom, and limited government.

Our nonpartisan public policy research promotes choice, competition, and a dynamic market economy as the foundation for human dignity and progress. Through rigorous, peer-reviewed research and direct engagement with policymakers, we seek strategies that emphasize cooperation, flexibility, local knowledge, transparency, accountability, and results. Our goal is to change the way people think about issues and promote policies that allow individuals and voluntary institutions to flourish.

Reason magazine, founded in 1968, covers politics, culture, and ideas through a provocative mix of news, analysis, commentary, and reviews. Reason and Reason.com offer a principled case for liberty and individual choice, providing a refreshing alternative to mainstream outlets.

ReasonTV produces investigative documentaries, interviews, and viral videos that deliver libertarian ideas and journalism to audiences worldwide. Launched in collaboration with Drew Carey, ReasonTV’s The Drew Carey Project shares compelling stories about freedom, free minds, and free markets across the Internet.

Reason Foundation, founded in 1978, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by voluntary contributions from individuals, foundations, corporations, and the sale of our publications.
