MOTA Glass was founded in November 2020 with a dual mission. Firstly, to combat the widespread issue of low-quality, mass-imported functional glass that devalues local production. Secondly, to address the ongoing marginalization of minority workers who are often overworked and underpaid in the industry.

Based in Los Angeles, MOTA Glass not only crafts high-quality, locally-made functional borosilicate glass but also prioritizes providing stable jobs with livable wages and clear career paths. As a minority-owned company, we take pride in celebrating and promoting the work of BIPOC and other minority artists through special projects and collaborations.

The name “MOTA” holds significance for us, representing a Spanish word for a tiny bit or a speck of dust, and also serving as slang for marijuana. We have reclaimed this term, once used to oppress minorities, and are using it on our glass vessels that deliver relief, comfort, and a sense of community.

Our decision to be based in Los Angeles is rooted in our past experiences in the glass industry, which revealed that many companies import cheap, inferior glass, misrepresenting it as American-made, all while exploiting minority workers for maximum profit.
